Today was a pretty cool day at work. I got to tag along to an event with
Lunds Energi
(where I work), E.ON and the European Spallation Source.
The three parties signed an agreement to make sure that ESS gets built totally climate neutral. Lunds Energi and E.ON are in charge of making sure the facility is totally driven by renewable energy sources, and that all the waste heat from the accelerator gets taken care of and put out on the local district heating grid.
Sitting at the table are: Jan Samuelsson (CEO of Lunds Energikoncernen), Jonas Abrahamsson (CEO of E.ON Nordic) and Colin Carlisle (CEO of ESS).
ESS will be open for business in 2019, but not fully completed until six years later. They will house a staff of 4000 researchers and generate enough excess heat to keep 10 000 small houses warm. It's an extremely cool project and I am really glad to be ever so peripherally connected to it.
